Week6A: Intro to Facebook Strategy
I'm extremely excited to start my own Facebook business page! I am a freelance model so I made a page to show my photos and centralize all of my content instead of spamming my friends and family with all of my photos.
I liked a few pages that are in relation to mine, and could possibly help grow my audience:
I liked a few pages that are in relation to mine, and could possibly help grow my audience:
- Kim Kardashian West
- Cara Delevingne
- The Skinny Confidential
- VIXEN Photography
- Michelle Tirronen Photography
- Makeup Geek
- Detour Salon
- Bombshell Salon & Skincare
I liked a mixture of famous models, local photographers I have worked with, a makeup line I admire, and 2 popular salons in my area.
I did this because modeling and the beauty world go hand in hand and my business page is for my modeling and I think this is a good mix to get started.

Week5B: Facebook Page Components
Facebook is the go-to channel for consumers looking for your brand in the online social scene. While it’s pertinent that your business has representation in the realm of Facebook, it’s important to make sure that the information you’re pushing out on your business’ page is valuable and engaging to your consumer, as well as relevant to your brand. So for today's post I will be defining the difference between post reach and post engagement.
How many people have seen your post, or how many people has your post "reached?" Reach is a great measurement because it shows you how often you are showing up on people's news feeds.
Reach
How many people have seen your post, or how many people has your post "reached?" Reach is a great measurement because it shows you how often you are showing up on people's news feeds. Engagement
How many likes, clicks, comments, and shares your posts get. Facebook’s news feed feature inherently nurtures word-of-mouth marketing. Basically, what this means is the more engagement your business has on Facebook (i.e. any time you or someone else likes, comments, or shares something on your page), the more often your business’ page will show up in your fan base's newsfeed. Why is it important?
The difference is extremely important because they are two very different metrics. High reach does not always mean a high engagement, but high engagement can increase your reach. I know this from my own business page I set up for this class. I posted a few photos and shared it via my personal page. While my reach was pretty high, I didn't receive any likes on my page, photo, or any engagement for that matter. How can your business optimize Facebook insights?
For centuries, brands have struggled to reach their target market effectively. Luckily for you, Facebook has nailed down the consumer targeting process with their Facebook Ads tool, a service that allows you to target micro-segments of the more than one billion users based on pretty much any demographic and psychographic qualities you can imagine. The benefit here is that your ads are being shown to people who have in some way or another expressed an interest in what it is you’re trying to market. Facebook is smart - it can figure out what people’s interests are based on the posts and pages they like, the things they search for online, etc. Whether you decide to run a Facebook Ads campaign to drive sales, promote page likes, or increase traffic to your website, Facebook is extremely helpful in putting your brand in front of the right people.Thursday, October 6, 2016
Week5A: Facebook Page Components
Alternate Assignment:
This week I will be doing the alternate assignment because the business I chose to use for class is already existing. I will be analyzing the Facebook usage of 3 businesses similar to the one I chose to use.
Detour Salon
- Detour posts on Facebook a few times a week. They are also a boutique, so they advertise the products in store as well as the daily activities in the salon.
- I think they are using Facebook in an effective way. Keeping people interested in not only the products available, but show casing the talent of their stylists.
- Detour posts a few times a week.
- The cover photo is setup and changes every couple months, and the calls to action are setup correctly with the salons phone number, email address, website, and location.
- I believe Detour uses Facebook in an effective way and doesn't need improvement.
Christian Wiles Hairdressing
- They use Facebook to promote current sales/promotions and client photos.
- By briefly overlooking Christian Wile's Facebook page, I can see that the salon is using it effectively. They currently have almost 9k likes and 117 reviews. Posting about upcoming events and hair-shows, this definitely gets clients excited about what the company is up to.
- They post about once a week.
- The cover photo showcases their awards for 2016 along with a group photo, and the call to action is is correct.
- To optimize client interaction I think the salon could post more often.
Hair by Nigel & Co.
- It appears the salon uses Facebook to share client photos, and positive reviews.
- I don't think they are using the platform as effectively as the other salons I have reviewed.
- They have only posted a couple times this month.
- The call to action is setup correctly. The cover photo seems unrelated and doesn't tell me a story or give me an idea about the salon.
- In my opinion, this salon could improve their use of social media by not manually posting customer reviews, posting more before/after photos, and showing off the culture of the salon to entice people into coming in.
My Business's Facebook Page
The business I chose to use for class is one that I am currently working with, Bombshell Salon & Skincare. Their Facebook page is- Bombshell 101
Bombshell posts client photos, links to new services they offer, events, and current promotions they have. Starting in 2011, the salon itself is full daily with clients wanting the full "bombshell" experience. The Facebook page only has 798 likes, which I am looking to grow. The business posts roughly, once a month. With Bombshell being such a successful salon, they don't exactly have time to be updating social media. But the world of Facebook is a bigger influence than we realize and I believe with consistency and quality posts, they can not only grow their following, but their cliental as well.

Week4A: Defining a Target Market Pt. 1
I'm excited to be discussing target marketing this week, as I am currently studying marketing as well.
I will be identifying the target markets of:
Popular in mainly suburban areas, Chilis does well because of their fast service and variety of American and "tex-mex" style Mexican food. Their call to action is all about fast service, ordering your meals in their trendy restaurant or taking it home.
They explained in detail about their lengthy process that the Yellow Deli had to go through when opening their Vista location. While they do offer healthy, local produce in store, they are also marketing their farm and wood-shop as well. There isn't much focus on the actual menu and I don't feel like I would see their site and be intrigued like I am with Chili's site. The deli does have a great selection of sandwiches, soups, salads, and drinks, all pretty healthy and at a reasonable price. They are open 24/5, so I believe their target market is aimed towards younger generations and college students who need a place to study and have a cup of coffee after Starbucks closes for the night.
Basic Observations
Chilis
Chilis offers cheap meals, drinks, and a casual environment. Catering to young people, and families, with their pick 3 menu options and sharing promotions it makes it easy to feed a family at a decent price.Popular in mainly suburban areas, Chilis does well because of their fast service and variety of American and "tex-mex" style Mexican food. Their call to action is all about fast service, ordering your meals in their trendy restaurant or taking it home.
Yellow Deli
I am unfamiliar with The Yellow Deli, but I have heard things about the religious group that runs it called the Twelve Tribes. It seems as if their call to action is to educate you about their group and almost convince you to join..?They explained in detail about their lengthy process that the Yellow Deli had to go through when opening their Vista location. While they do offer healthy, local produce in store, they are also marketing their farm and wood-shop as well. Conclusion
Chilis website design is very modern and simple, showcasing current promotions and detailed images of items on their menu. The Yellow Deli's site is a bite dated, and extremely wordy, filled with their religious beliefs and their history not not much information about the product or experience a customer should expect upon visiting the restaurant.
The overall tone of Chilis is welcoming and enticing, with all the photos of the food, and the deals the restaurant usually has going on- it's hard to not be drawn into their marketing. Yellow Deli's tone seems dry and honestly, uninviting. If I want to meet up with friends for a quick bite and conversation, I would prefer to go somewhere more lively, happy, aesthetically pleasing in a good area.
Now again, I have never gone to the deli, so I could be wrong. I am only expressing what I have found from their site. Most people make quick judgements based on reviews they found online and how the company presents themselves online. That is why social media and online presence is so important.
